When your Team Ghosts your New App!

Technology is a powerful tool and enabler of efficiency and innovation in businesses today. As leaders, we must make meaningful adaptations to the digital landscape. However, this journey is not without its pitfalls. The 'shiny object syndrome' can be particularly challenging, as the constant allure of new tech tools can lead us astray from our core business needs.

Last week, I shared an example of an individual in our organization who struggles with meeting culture, which was compounded by a larger issue – the resistance to change by adopting new tools for business efficiency.

During my research, I discovered a helpful article by Forbes on this very topic (18 Expert Tips For Overcoming Resistance To New Tech Tools). The article echoes my firm belief that technology should be adopted not for the sake of adopting a new shiny object, but for its the positive impact and problem-solving capabilities. The adoption of new technology must be straightforward and improve, rather than hinder, work process and organizational change.

Creating buy-in requires identifying and supporting early adopters within the organization, leveraging the diffusion of innovation to foster collaboration and wider adoption. With patience, modeling desired behavior, and by sharing success stories, leaders can generate enthusiasm and encourage the transition to new technologies to avoid your Team Ghosts your New App.

Moving forward, it is critical to:

  • Offer comprehensive training and support for any new communication tools introduced.

  • Model the behavior that we seek in our teams.

  • Share our successes widely, promoting the benefits and positive impacts of adoption.
